Periodontics-Treatment
Hygiene Phase
Includes scaling and root planning by a dental hygienist or a dentist. In this initial phase the instruction of oral hygiene is performed, as well as additional aids such as floss and interdental brushes. The motivation of the patient is also important. The objective of this phase is to obtain an optimal oral hygiene with no plaque deposits.
Reevaluation Phase
After the first phase of hygiene the re-assessment of gums is performed. In many cases recall in short intervals by the dentist or the dental hygienist are enough to control the oral hygiene of the patient and to reveal possible vulnerabilities carefully and to remove any calculus. When a severe periodontitis is diagnosed, periodontal surgery is usually necessary.
Periodontal Surgical Therapy
This phase of therapy allows the treatment of the root surface under visualization and is performed by the periodontist. Perfect oral hygiene and high motivation of the patient is a prerequisite to maintain the teeth.
Maintenance Phase
The long-term success of periodontal therapy is revealed in this phase. Consistent monitoring of oral hygiene, a recall and the regular-motivation of the patient are the guarantee for this success. Finally, the patient is responsible for his own efforts and self-motivation for success.
